Undergoing breast reconstruction can have a profound emotional and practical benefit to breast-cancer Survivors who have had a complete or partial mastectomy (removal of all or part of breast tissue and nipple). Breast reconstruction can and does help enhance a breast-cancer Survivor's confidence and self-image after mastectomy.

Although the Women's Health and Cancer Rights of 1998 requires health insurance to cover breast reconstruction following a partial or total mastectomy, not all women are insured. Therefore, not all women can afford breast reconstruction surgery.

The truth is - one out of five women under 65 years of age is uninsured or underinsured!

The Breast Cancer Reconstruction 5K walk, which will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2014, is a fund-raiser for these uninsured or underinsured women needing help to offset the cost of breast-reconstruction surgery.
